The Island PresidentThe London arm of the international Human Rights Watch Film Festival kicks off this evening with ten days (23-30 March) of dramas and documentaries highlighting injustice around the world. This year’s hand-picked selection is arguably the strongest yet and includes Jon Shenk’s ‘The Island President’ (above), an enlightening portrayal of one man’s quest to save his nation from the forces of global warming, the immaculately shot ‘Raising Resistance’, which looks at the impact of genetically modified farming, and Werner Herzog’s eagerly awaited capital punishment doc, ‘Into the Abyss: A Tale of Death, A Tale of Life’, among many others. All screenings will be taking place at the Curzon Soho, ICA and the Brixton Ritzy.
