In honour of their current exhibition ‘Moment of Clarity’ at Whisper, creative duo Tom and Craig (aka STATIC) reveal the top places in their hood, Hackney Wick…

Wallis Road Studio
Hackney Wick is all about creativity and that’s part of the reason that we moved into a space here. The space that we’re now working out of is nearly three times what we used to work out of and has windows, which is obviously a bonus. Wallis Road Studios is full of other artists, designers and others of that ilk. There is a great sense of community and we all get involved in each others projects. You only have to walk around the corner or look out of the window and you’ll see somebody you know.

The Van Man
Anyone who lives or works in Hackney Wick, or has visited our studio will know whom we mean. It’s definitely an extra bonus of moving here! Be it a quick lunch, mid-morning brunch or their hangover cure (bacon, sausage, egg & mushroom sandwich), these guys always deliver. Come rain, wind or shine, they will sort you out.

The Hackney Pearl
At the opposite end of the spectrum (and the street from the Van Man) is the Hackney Pearl. We frequent this mostly when we have meetings that require a little more professional approach. For example, we had our first meeting with Whisper there. They serve great quality coffee, bloody Mary’s and Meantime on draught. It’s often got a handful of people quietly musing away throughout the day and can get really busy at night, with a mixture of locals and visitors who come to check out nearby shows and studio openings.

Hackney Wick Station
It’s an odd choice, but since becoming Hackney residents we feel rather patriotic about some of the changes here in recent years. The fact that we’re on the doorstep of the Olympic Park, helps for sure! Platforms 1  and  2 at Hackney Wick station provide amazing panoramic views of the city skyline, mixed in with the new 2012 architecture. More importantly, it also helps us get everywhere we need to get when we’re not cycling around.
