Like most girls, my post-shower hair prep consists of tipping my head upside down, pointing my 5-year old dryer vaguely in the right direction and hoping for the best. The Blow Bar, however, promised to transform my pitiful skills into those of a styling pro by teaching me the techniques of a perfect blow dry. The knowledgeable Emma lead the workshop (never made up of more than six pupils) and there were only four other blow dry pupils in my group. She managed to ensure that everyone was given equal guidance and attention and picked the best products for each person’s hair type, before teaching us how to hold the brush and negotiate the hairdryer at the same time – easy when you know how!
The classes take place in a private room above the salon and there’s a tangible sense of both luxury and exclusivity – helped along by a complimentary glass or two of Champagne. The tipple was welcome given that the class isn’t cheap: £79 for 90 minutes. But the session does provide you with the sort of skills that will ensure a lifetime of sleek, perfectly blow dried hair. I certainly came away with the sort of swishy hair that I’ve only ever experienced at the hands of an expert. So if you’re after some genuine tricks of the trade (and a slightly smug feeling), The Blow Bar is the place to go. Grace Holliday
