Art, disco and snails on a sunny Sunday afternoon

Posted at 5:45 pm, May 26, 2012 in Arts & Entertainment, Fun London

This years’ Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair takes place this Sunday May 27 in Brick Lane Yard (confusingly not in Vauxhall at all!). Once again, the artists themselves will be manning stalls and flogging their wares from the boots of vintage and classic cars, meaning that art fans are in with a very real chance of bagging a bargain. But, even if you’re not in a buying mood there will be plenty to keep you entertained.

This year introduces the concept of the ‘handbag disco’ (in support of Just for Kids Law). A cross between a raffle and musical chairs, competitors pay £10, dance around a pile of disguised handbags and grab one at random when the music (70’s themed, of course) stops. Each disco diva is guaranteed a bag, but hidden in the pile is a designer offering worth up to £1,000 (definitely worth a little boogie). Once your dancing feet get weary, there’ll be other delights including a car bonnet snail race, in-car Scalextrix as well as food, drink and entertainment. With 5,000 people passing through in just six hours last year it’s sure to get pretty rammed so get down there early.

For info, see Vauxhall Art Car Boot listing
