When Boris launched his bike hire scheme across the capital, this might not have been exactly what he had in mind. This Saturday June 9, the World Naked Bike Ride is peddling into London, with over a thousand people expected to strip off and get on their bikes for the annual protest against our increasing dependency on oil and cars. Beginning and ending at the Hyde Park Corner roundabout (near Wellington Arch), the nine mile route will take in the city’s scenic sights – and will undoubtedly get stuck in traffic along the way. Far from being embarrassed, it’s likely the protestors will embrace such standstill – with the event’s website even offering body painting tips for those who truly take the ‘as bare as you dare’ policy to heart. The sight of a 1000 bare bottoms sagging over saddles is sure to be a liberating experience. For once, safety helmets are optional. Lisa Paul
