Icelandic National Day is on Saturday June 16, and is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Nordic culture. But if you fancy some proper Nordic food without the meal preparation turning into a saga, Texture restaurant in Marylebone – hosted by Icelandic chef Agnar Sverrisson – is putting on a intimate dinner (for 16 people) in a private room adjoining the main restaurant. The meal costs £145 per head – Texture is one of the top restaurants in the West End, and the prices reflect that; wines chosen by Texture’s sommelier Xavier Rousset are included in the price. The seven-course menu is Aggi’s take on traditional Icelandic dishes (in the Texture style – polished and creative), from gravlax, king crab, shoulder of lamb and skyr (like strained yogurt) with sorrel and wild flowers. To finish, no Icelandic celebration would be complete without Icelandic Brenniven (schnapps) and the rotten shark ‘drinking dare’ called hákarl, which – just for the record – is the most disgusting foodstuff Time Out’s Food & Drink Editor has ever eaten.
