Who gets to judge what good art is? Well the panellists on the National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Awards apparently. Thousands of people send in their entries every year but only 55 are selected to be exhibited. Sounds kind of unfair right? Well that’s where Dazed and Refused step in. Working on a first come, first served basis, rejected artists were given the opportunity to display their work at the Arch Gallery. With over 100 portraits available to view and buy, there’s something for everyone including some paintings that made it into the BP top 100. Not only are Dazed and Refused celebrating these talented rejects with an exhibition but they’re also throwing a banquet. On June 22 and 23, Chef Allan Chandler will be preparing a three course meal with live music for £25 per head. So get on down and celebrate the underdog. Carly-Ann Clements
