Back in June, our friends from the LondOntheInside blog, Jules and Ben, shared the top five things they were looking forward to last month. We pretty much ticked them all off the list, so here’s their fresh hot tickets for the coming weeks.
1. Tommi’s Burger Joint, Marylebone Lane, Opening date TBC
‘There’s no denying it burgers are back in a big, big way. Meat Liquor, Lucky Chip and Honest Burgers have raised the meaty game which is why we’ll be interested to see what the latest burger joint to hit London has to offer. Tommi’s burger joint is set to open this month on Marylebone, the man behind it is credited with introducing burgers to Iceland. Located just a hop, skip and jump from Meat Liquor – always good to know if the queue is too long – Tommi’s will be kitted out in retro furniture and nostalgic posters. So good one guy has already scored his first place in the queue.
2. Rattlesnake, Upper Street, opens July 5
Tequila and Tex Mex food, two of our favourite things in the whole world and now they are coming to Upper Street courtesy of new venue Rattlesnake. The latest venture of Paul Daly infamous bar designer, Rattlesnake is influenced by the 1969 American film ‘Easy Rider’ with tequila shots, huge jukebox, good-time food, live music and rooftop terrace (they had us at tequila shots).
3. LIMA, 31 Rathbone Place, opens July 11
Since the opening of Ceviche in Soho with its Pisco sours and tangy ceviche, we noticed a big trend in Peruvian food, not that we’re complaining. The latest Peruvian joint, LIMA opens this month with Chef Virgilio Martinez at the helm who has a pretty impressive background. There will be plenty of raw fish, the infamous tiger blood – it’s not anywhere as bad as it sounds, suckling pig, goat and the all important Pisco Sours, it wouldn’t be Peruvian without the national cocktail now, would it?
4. Converse: Represent, 100 Club, starts July 30
You can’t beat a bloody good gig especially when it’s one of your favourite bands, tickets are free and the shows are in one of the city’s most famous, intimate venues. Which is why we’ve already signed already to win tickets for Converse Represent, from every single email address we own. Converse are taking over the 100 Club to host 45 bands in 9 nights, technically most of the nights are in August but it kicks off on July 30, and you’ll need to enter in advance. We’re trying for Paul Weller, 2:45, Savages, Pulled Apart By Horses, Django Django and Best Coast – see you there.
5. Jimmy’s Supper Club, Hutchins Close, Stratford, from July 12
The pop-up supper club craze is showing no signs of slowing down, and this month we’re looking forward to trying Jimmy’s Supper Club which just happens to be located 100 metres from the Olympic site. Jimmy was the man also behind The Wild Food Kitchen and SouthWest Supper Club. Kicking off on July 12, there are a host of weird, wonderful and whacky nights planned including a sports day with intercourse events (that’s events between courses not anything rude!). You might want to cycle though otherwise you’ll be travelling amongst the masses.
