On Monday night I went to the swanky opening of the new Tanks at the Tate Modern. The art glitterati were out in full force illuminated by some rather dramatic light displays (see above) for this upscale arty party. However, none of this eclipsed the drama of the Tanks themselves. These large industrial concrete underground caverns were rather spectacular and the next 15 weeks of ‘Art in Action’ performance, film and installations featuring over 40 international artists also looks set to be rather good. The Tanks are the first phase of the Tate Modern Project, designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, which wil create an exciting new addition to the Tate Modern, increasing the gallery by 60%. That is a lot more room for a lot more art. Book now to see the upcoming performances, especially choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, who will be doing her minimalist dance piece until Friday. This was so popular on Monday night that I couldn’t even get in, so reserve your tickets now. Sonya Barber
