Home fire burning: bringing the Olympic Torch to Hackney
After all the planning, hype and anticipation, it is nearly here. July 21 sees the arrival of the Olympic Torch on the home stretch to the Opening Ceremony. To welcome the flame onto the streets of Hackney, there’ll be a whole day of events throughout the Olympic borough. Things will kick off with a huge parade from Shoreditch to Stoke Newington, clearing the way for the torch to take its course in the afternoon. If a parade isn’t really your bag, there’s plenty to do at the Hackney Homemade Street Market, Hackney Central Village Fête and other local festivals to mark the historic day.
