Cartoon zombies! Chewbacca played by a dog! Rambo portrayed by both an 11-year-old boy and a grown man marauding around a New York studio apartment! These aren’t the fever dreams of a deluded cinephile but part of the programme of Swede Dreams, a two-day mini-festival of homemade tributes to Hollywood’s finest.
Taking place at the Roxy Bar and Screen in London Bridge, the weekender (July 28/29) – programmed by Time Out’s own Ben Walters – is inspired by ‘Be Kind Rewind’ (above), in which Jack Black and Mos Def’s hapless characters recreated studio classics on a shoestring and inspired a thriving new strand of folk cinema. Swede Dreams includes five feature films – ‘Be Kind Rewind, ‘Son of Rambow’, ‘Star Wars Uncut’, ‘Flooding with Love for the Kid’and ‘Night of the Living Dead Reanimated’ – and numerous mash-ups and supercuts. Whether you want to escape the Olympics or get out of the rain, sweet dreams are guaranteed.
