Stein's

It’s all eyes on Kingston. Recent footage of the Olympic road cycling may have showcased the best of the Royal Borough’s architecture, but what of its cooking? Head down between now and Sunday August 12 for a celebration of food and drink from across the wider area, including Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex. Highlights include a ‘food trail’ of edible samples (Thursday); tasting masterclasses, a food market, and dedicated events for kids (Saturday and Sunday); and a festival of English beer, cider and wine across the weekend (Friday through Sunday). There’s even a chilli-eating competition on Saturday, for those that dare (or you can just watch, which let’s face it, is probably safer). Tania Ballantine

For more info, see kingstonfoodfestival.com. If you can’t get down there this week, the new Kingston branch of Stein’s will be open all year for beer, sausages, and lovely riverside views.
