Don’t leave me hanging…
After the recent #DangleBoris hilarity, it seems zip wires are now synonymous with flailing flag waving. Whenever I mentioned that I was going to be whizzing across Wembley Stadium on their new zip wire, I was subjected to no end of BoJo taunts. From August 27 to September 2, as part of their stadium tours, Wembley have strung up a 200 metre-long zip wire 30 metres above their famous pitch (it feels a lot higher than it sounds) for football fans and the like to fly across at 25mph. Not one to shy away from the odd adrenaline rush (anything for the blog), I left my flags at home this morning and quietly prepared myself for getting suspended mid-air or shrieking like a banshee.
It’s easy to forget just how huge the Stadium is and after getting fully kitted out in harness, gloves and hard hat, the fear kicked in and I started to regret agreeing to come (after all, I don’t even care about football). However, once I took one off, the only worry I had was about which pose I should pull and if my shoes were going to fly off and hit someone in the head. The whole thing only takes 15 seconds and after all the build up, my only disappointment was that it was over too soon. ‘Again! Again!’ I cried as the adrenaline surged through my body. But alas, they were all booked up for the day. Sonya Barber
