The Barking Bathhouse* is now open

Posted at 3:00 pm, August 28, 2012 in Fun London

The Barking BathhouseGet yourself a good book and settle down on the District line for the long trundle to Barking, where perhaps London’s most affordable spa has just set up a sauna. The boys behind Farm:Shop in Dalston are two of the brains behind the pop up, a sustainable spa comprising a sauna, chiller room and outdoor rest areas, as well as rooms for yoga, massage and manicures. While it’s no Sanderson – (your goods are locked away in rusty lockers, treatment rooms are divided by thin chipboard walls), it’s ever such fun. You can order a smoothie to lubricate your sauna session from a bar sheltered with cucumber plants, and the whole experience costs only £2 if you’re a local. In the likely event you don’t actually live in Barking, a day at the bathhouse will cost you just £8 – and a potential head injury from one of those low-flying cucumbers.

For info, see barkingbathhouse.com.

*there are no baths. There are some showers though.
