1234 Festival

Our pals Jules and Ben from the London on the Inside have got their finger on the pulse of hot new London openings and happenings. Here are the five things they are most looking forward to this month…

1234 Festival, Shoreditch Park, Sept 1
‘London’s last outdoor music fest 1234 is happening at the start of this month and it’s the best line-up we’ve seen from these guys yet! This small festival combines emerging bands with established acts to form a mind numbingly brilliant collection of artists. This year we’ll be catching punk legends The Buzzcocks, The Duke Spirit, Crocodiles, Dirty Beaches, S.C.U.M, Savages, The Neat and VuVuVultures, – to name but a few!  Oh and don’t forget the after-show parties too.’

The Old Bengal Warehouse, East India, from Sept 17
‘With so many restaurants opening, how do you make yours standout? Build it in the city’s oldest surviving warehouse of course. That’s exactly what’s happening at The Old Bengal Warehouse which is being transformed into four outlets; Fish Market, New Street Grill, The Old Bengal Bar and New Street Wine Shop. Built around 1770 the grade II listed warehouse will offer one of the quirkiest restaurant settings in the city. We’ll go for the 900g Porterhouse, stay for the Dirty Truffle cocktails and leave via the 600-bin wine shop!’

Jose Pizarro at Benares, Berkeley Square, Sept 17 – Sept 22
‘Even if you haven’t eaten at one of Jose Pizarro’s restaurants there is a good chance you’ll have heard of him. This month he moves into the bar at Benares on Berkeley Square for a week long residency. Grilled Prawns with Chilli, Manchego Fig & Almond Salad, and Barbecued Lamb Cutlets with honey, mustard and rosemary will be served alongside Indian Summer Sangria – viva Espana baby!’

Fifteen Street, Ginstock & Rumstock, Hoxton, Sept 15 – Sept 16
‘Gin, Rum and Street Food, seriously could this two day event be anymore on trend? Fifteen Street celebrates the best of Street Food by hosting the 2012 British Street Food Awards and bringing together 15 of the best traders to cook up a FEAST using a horse box to bake bread, a beach hut (with seagulls) that serves fish and chips, and a telephone box that smokes fish. Mmmm…What’s more Ginstock & Rumstock have tied up with the event to a head-to-head shake-and-stir off with the country’s finest bartenders – stirrers at dawn! Each day will be themed around that booze and the audience will have the tough job of trying all eight cocktails to vote for a winner, well somebody has to do it.’

More London Free Film Festival, The Scoop, Sept 12 – Sept 28
‘There are plenty reasons why we’ll be heading to the The Scoop this month. Not only is it one of the best outdoor cinema settings in London – the backdrop is Tower Bridge, it’s also free, that’s right it costs absolutely nothing, and free is always good! Plus the events kick-off with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – who doesn’t love The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel?’
