Is there equality for women in the arts?

Broken Hearts Requiem, 2011 © Phoebe Collings-James If this week’s Stylist Magazine is to go by, women and art is a hot topic. This is old news to the East London Fawcett Group who’ve been leading the Great East London Art Audit to examine the gender inequalities in London’s galleries and museums. For the next leg of their tour, they’re heading to Shoreditch House on September 5 to discuss the reality of women’s positions in the art world. The night will include film screenings and conversations with industry insiders including Ellen Mara de Wachter (Curator of the Zabludowicz Collection) and Domino Pateman (Arts Co-Ordinator at the Southbank Centre) looking at how far the London art establishment needs to be shaken up. Unfortunately the actual event is only open to Shoreditch House members but they’ll be streaming it live on their site and you can tweet along – there’s no excuse not to have your say.
