While most of us landlubbers will be taking advantage of the perfectly ripe squashes, apples and other seasonal delights on offer this autumn, a six-week long celebration of ocean fare is about to commence tomorrow (September 11) at the Autumn Harvest of the Sea Festival. There will be an open exhibition throughout the festival along with recitals, concerts, lectures and other one off events leading up to the main event taking place on October 14. Fishmongers will be making the annual pilgrimage from Billingsgate Fish Market to St Mary-at-Hill for the Harvest of the Sea service bringing with them some of their finest oceanic specimens which will be used to decorate the church. Visitors are welcomed to the fishy thanksgiving so head down for one of the capital’s most curious services; just keep an eye out for stray cats following you on the way home. Carly-Ann Clements
