We are happy to announce that today is a day to make your mind, city and world a better place. Today is not only World Peace Day but World Car Free Day too, and the city is packed with do-gooding things for you to do to celebrate. Need some help deciding how to show your peaceful support? We’ve picked our top five ways to take part today.
Cycle Fashion Parade
To celebrate World Car Free Day, Camden Council will be closing Bayley Street for an evening of extreme sport, fashion and music. Girl band Alfee will be taking the stage before BMX stunt riders Team Extreme hit the half-pipe at 5pm followed by a catwalk show at 7pm.
Notting Hill Exhibition
Head west for an artistic treasure hunt this week as 12 artists from around the world make a peaceful statement. Notting Hill will be turned into one massive gallery as 20 shops undergo an artistic transformation until September 30. All the art will be up for sale and proceeds go to Peace One Day.
Hundreds of institutions around the world will be showing 17 90-second films specially made for World Peace Day. The films in London will be shown at the Design Museum or you can stream them at home.
Make peace symbols out of flowers and join a meditation flash mob at Potter Field Park
To get a real zen experience today, show your support by stepping back to the 70s with flowered peace sign making from 6pm and then clear your mind of troubled thoughts at the meditation flash mob from 6.30pm. After you have made your peaceful demonstration, join in with the group performance of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ but just make sure you don’t get the order mixed up like the woman in the above video.
