Wahaca sandwich bar
The Mexican chain Wahaca has opened a new branch in Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, but with a twist – for the first time, they’ve installed a dedicated takeaway counter that offers torta (sandwiches). These sloppy Mexican sandwiches comprise of crusty white rolls stuffed with warm black bean frijoles, sour cream, salsa, avocado and your choice of cinnamon and chilli spiked pork pibil, tender strips of steak, chicken, chorizo or roast tomatoes and feta. At £5-£6.25, we were impressed by the quality of the fillings, the generous portion sizes, and by the cheery efficiency of the staff. Also available for take-away are stuffed soft corn tortilla tacos and burritos, while to sip there’s sweet, milky horchata (a nut-based beverage).
