School children, sweet addicts, newspaper buyers and smokers: all regular patrons of the classic newsagent. I don’t know about you, but I get rather attached to my corner shops. There is something extremely comforting about the familiar staff, produce, smell, displays and banter. And mine isn’t even half as good as graphic designer Son Emirali’s local. Foster’s Newsagents has been selling sweets and the like to the dedicated punters of Brockley Rise for the last 90 years. Son grew up with this shop and was such a fan of the service, layout and stock (including an insanely good looking sweet selection) that he decided to dedicate a whole book to deconstructing every beautiful part of the brilliant retailer. There are 126 pages looking at the stock, colour, layout, scale and categorisation, interspersed with shoppers’ conversations. It’s so immersive that you’ll feel like you’ve visited Fosters a hundred times before. Sonya Barber
