When you think of speed dating, you may well imagine sitting opposite a single stranger for an allocated amount of time while you awkwardly try and make conversation about how weird speed dating is. Yes, this is one way to try and meet people. But these days it seems that London singletons are all about the mingle. Take an empty bar, fill it full of hot single people, make them bring a single friend of the opposite sex, give everyone a name tag and let the alcohol-fuelled magic happen. Not for the shy or retiring, unlike the comforting structure of a traditional speed dating event, these nights require you to down a gin and put yourself out there to chat to people. After all, what have you got to lose (apart from your dignity)?!
Meddlers of Honour
Strictly NOT a singles night (or so they say), Meddlers packs out bars with unattached folks and let’s them get on with it. They split their parties in to those for over 20s and over 38s, so you should be able to find a match of a similar age.
East London’s singletons should head to Monty’s. Bring a wingperson of the opposite sex and your own booze and get ready to mingle. There’s performances, music and a photobooth to get people chatting and a toastie bar to keep your strength up.
Claiming to be the ‘single’s night for people who don’t like single’s nights’ Slagbox invite you to cut out the awkwardness and nonsense and great straight to the point. They’re next night is on October 31 so be brave, be bold and slag it up.
Meet and Mingle
A bar full of hot Shoreditch media types all up for a chat? Sounds pretty good to us. The next event is a Halloween special on October 29 at the Queen of Hoxton and tickets are now on sale for guys and gals.
If you meet anyone at any of these nights, we want to hear about it! I might even buy a hat…Sonya Barber
