Tolstoy’s original literary feast not enough? Joe Wright’s theatrical cinematic rendering insufficient? Anna Karenina fans can now indulge even further: supper club Russian Revels are putting on a dinner in honour of the novel, an epicurean evocation of nineteenth-century Russian high society on October 15. It’s being hosted at Mari Vanna, the best Russian restaurant in London and a nominee for the Best New Design category of the Time Out Eating & Drinking Awards. To tie in with the occasion, the menu will take inspiration from the fashionable Russo-French cuisine of the time, rather than the restaurant’s usual babushka-style cooking. Princess Shcherbatskaya’s raspberry jam might even make an appearance, unless Agathya Mikhailovna has anything to do with it. If you end up next to an Oblonsky, keep an eye on your glass. And try to avoid any Levins mumbling about farming methods. Get your tickets now, the first Anna Karenina dinner sold out in a day, and there are only 30 seats available – so you’ll have to be fast.
