“You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling…”
The recent Landscape Institute competition, for green London ideas to rival New York City’s High Line, was a fount of attention-grabbing suggestions. Take, for example, the above plan to turn the disused pillars beside Blackfriars Bridge into a nifty transpontine park. Or there’s the LidoLine, a slightly-crazy idea to add swimming lanes to Regents Canal, finally allowing brave commuters to breaststroke their way to work. Or, below, the winning (!) concept to turn the disused Mail Rail tunnel into an underground mushroom park.
“What an unusual date location. He seems like a real fungi!”
It got us thinking – what other disused and misused London infrastructure could be given a newer, funner lease of life? Vote in our poll or suggest your own idea – good ones will be given the glory they deserve.
