London without the Tube is simply unimaginable. Seriously though, just try to imagine it. This beast of a transport system will be turning 150 next year – and the alleged ‘oldest person in the world’ was only 132 when she died this week. To celebrate this big birthday, the London Transport Museum will be putting on a series of events, but you’ll have to wait for next year to enjoy those. For the meantime, they have written a new book – Underground: How the Tube Shaped London, discussing the Tube’s history and its invaluable role in Londoners’ daily lives. They will also be discussing the book, and the history of the Tube, with the BBC’s Robert Elms on Monday October 29 at the London Transport Museum in collaboration with Penguin Books. Tickets are only £5; book now. Victoria Gray
