Cities, they grow up so fast don’t they? One minute they’re a Roman fort, and the next they’re ascending to the lofty heights of The Shard. Despite a 30 year stalemate of building tower blocks after the spate of ugly concrete flats that we have the 70s to thank for, over 100 tower block style buildings have sought planning permission in the capital recently. With the influx of rooftop bars, the excitement about the Walkie Talkie’s Sky Garden and the hotly anticipated opening of the View from the Shard, we can certainly see why – it’s all about the view these days. Only problem is, we’re just a tiny bit worried that we’ll never see the sky again, which isn’t something you really need in a city this greyVictoria Gray
