Appliqué reindeer antlers and mohair snowflakes, wonky pompoms, sleigh-bells and flashing Rudolph noses – Christmas is really just an excuse to wear your most ironic jumper. Perhaps with this in mind, London designer James Long has created a seven-piece collection of wintry knits for Topman, using British yarn, inspired by Long’s ‘favourite sweater-wearing musical icons such as the members of Sex Pistols, the Bay City Rollers and of course Bobby Gillespie and Keith Richards.’ The six crew necks and cardie may not necessarily have been designed with irony in mind, but we’re sure they’ll do the trick. The full James Long for Topman range is in store from November 12, but tonight, at the Topman General Store in Shoreditch, you can see (and buy) a very special sneak preview. The collection is full of Long’s wonderfully loopy touches – oversized polka dots, tartan, a bit of Lurex, and what Topman describe as ‘mashed up arans’. Sounds painful. Dan Jones
