Who should we encourage to come to London?
This week, the British government announced plans to help Chinese citizens get a UK visa, and London’s institutions are already after their cash. Harrods and Selfridges have installed cash machines that accept Chinese bank cards, Harrods is teaching staff Mandarin and Cantonese, and the Landmark hotel in Marylebone is offering a breakfast of congee (rice porridge), pickles, salted eggs and steamed buns.
