Tickets for Ri Ri’s Twickenham Stadium gig next June have just gone on sale. For anyone wavering about going to see the clothes-dodging popstress, here are five good reasons you probably should get booking…
1. It’ll be better than the 777 Tour
Rihanna is currently taking 150 journalists on a tour of seven countries in seven days. But you didn’t want to be on a 777 Boeing plane packed with sweaty, attention-seeking hacks did you? At the (exceedingly) spacious Twickenham Stadium, where she’ll be headlining in June next year, everyone will get a glimpse of the star. And in comfort too, providing it doesn’t rain. In which case, umbrella-ella-ellas at the ready!
2. Let’s talk about sets, baby
With previous stage themes including 20-foot black and gold Egyptian pharaohs, a gigantic speaker that encapsulated Rihanna like a futuristic hamster ball and a cobra head shooting lasers from its eyes, expectations are high this time around. We’re expecting a Swarovski-encrusted model army of mini Ri Ris that, like shimmering disco balls, reflect light over the audience. Or something along those lines…
3. Guaranteed groove
It’s hard to resist singing along to any one of Rihanna’s 45 singles. From her dancehall debut ‘Pon de Replay’ to the latest heart-tugging ‘Diamonds’, the 24-year-old Bajan hasn’t taken her finger off the pulse for a second. And yes, we can even get down with that Coldplay collabo earlier this year.
4. All the better for Guetta
We imagine support act David Guetta’s appearance will split the crowd like The Red Sea, but there’s nothing wrong with cheesy dance build-ups, so get stuck in and rave like no one’s watching.
5. She’s better than Beyoncé
The hits don’t lie. Beyoncé may be the queen of R&B married to hip hop’s king Jay-Z, but as a solo artist she’s eating Rihanna’s dust with a respectable five Number One singles compared to Ms Fenty’s whopping nine chart-toppers, with 10 more breaching the Top 10. Sorry Bey, there’s a new queen bee in town. Danielle Goldstein
