Today: Oxford Street and Regent Street pedestrianised for your shopping pleasure
American Express are giving you the opportunity to shop like a VIP (a Very Important Pedestrian, that is) today (Nov 24), as they close off Oxford and Regent Street to all traffic from 8am-8pm as part of their annual shopping frenzy. As well as street performers and plenty of wallet busting bargains, American Express will be lining the streets with 100 Gift Gurus (the most materialistic of the gurus) who’ll be doling out present-buying tips in case you’re having difficulty. For those of you bemoaning the shameless appropriation of Oxford (sponsored by Marmite) and Regent Street, rest assured that £1 of every purchase made via American Express will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Expect plenty of prime pavement real estate for you and your shopping bags, but be careful how much you do buy as there’s no way you’ll find a bus or taxi without putting in some extra legwork.
