Four festive Christmas movie pop-ups

Lions and tigers and bears (Oh my)

There’s plenty of film pop-ups springing up for Crimbo. Get booking, munchkins…

‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the Barbican, Dec 22-23
Can you think of a more lovely way to spend an afternoon on the weekend before Christmas than at the Barbican watching Dorothy and the gang with a live orchestral score? Us neither.

Pop Up Screens on Brick Lane, Dec 18-23
It’s the promise of a ‘snow-filled cinema’ behind a massive, Narnia-style wardrobe that’s got us interested in this pop-up. That and hot chocolate ‘as thick as custard’. Films are cheesy-fun – think ‘Home Alone’ and ‘The Muppets Christmas Carol’.

Enchanted Pictures at the Old Vic Tunnels, every Sat and Sun until Dec 23
Over in Waterloo, the Old Vic Tunnels (huge railway vaults under the station) have been magicked into a winter wonderland – with an alpine forest, snow-capped cinema, hot cider and Crimbo classics like ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘ET’.

Love Actually

Christmas Film Club at Netil House, Dec 3 – 20
These are the folks behind the summer-time Rooftop Film Club, so expect a full-on cinema-in-your-lounge experience – bean bags, wireless headphones and mulled wine. Movies include winter warmers ‘Love Actually’ and ‘Scrooged’.
