World AIDS Day

Old Compton Street’s G-A-Y bar have smashed their previous record for the number of HIV tests carried out on World AIDS Day. 745 people were tested in a period of eight hours on Saturday December 1, breaking G-A-Y’s previous record of 467 in 2011. The tests were carried out by staff from sexual health and HIV clinic 56 Dean Street using antibody tests which can provide results in just 60 seconds. The record attempt came amidst reports indicating that more than three thousand gay and bisexual men contracted the virus last year – the highest since records began. G-A-Y have promised to donate £10 to the Elton John foundation for every HIV test taken. Nice work, London. Jonno Hopkins
