Great news for those who enjoy standing in the cold for hours without going to the toilet in anticipation of a sky-high gunpowderfest. Boris Johnson this morning announced a ‘spectacular’ New Year’s Eve fireworks display, based on themes of 2012. Capping off what has been a pretty damn triumphant year for London, the UK’s biggest fireworks display is expected to attract over 200,000 people to the banks of the Thames, adding to the many thousands who are planning to come to the capital for a night of enforced fun. Transport services will run throughout the night, and will be free between 11.45pm and 4.30am. Revellers are advised to arrive early in order to bag a spot close to the epicentre of the display at the London Eye. Or if you don’t fancy a riverside view, watch the display from Parliament Hill (or another high point), or flip over from Jools’s Hootenanny to catch the live broadcast on the BBC. Jonno Hopkins
