Alan Gilby But Who Knows the east end?

If you’ve ever seen a tour wending its way through the East End, you can be pretty sure that it focuses predominantly on the life and times of Jack the Ripper. This Ripper saturation is what inspired BAFTA Award-winning screenwriter Alan Gilbey, who’s lived in the East end his whole life, to create his own line of immersive tours that combine theatre, props and stand-up in an effort to bring London’s history to life. To coincide with the release of his new book, ‘East End Backpassages: An Explorer’s Guide’, Alan and co are back with a new tour, ‘But Who Knows the East End?’, on Dec 10-13. Just don’t mention the serial killer. Jonno Hopkins

Tickets cost £12; book now at spitalfieldsmusic.org.uk.
