Avoid the obvious places and seek out some new London highs…
1. Alexandra Palace, N22
‘The People’s Palace’ comprises 196 acres of diverse parkland and offers aspects of city, suburbs and sky.
2. Beckton Alp, E6
Ex-ski-slope (it was the ’80s…) on the A13 between Beckton gasworks and City Airport. Provides atmospheric photo-ops.
3. Shooters Hill, SE18
Just beyond Blackheath you’ll find ‘The highest point between London and Paris’. If Paris was in Belgium.
4. Point Hill, SE10
This tiny park-with-no-name by the A2 above Greenwich is a great picnic spot, with views from Battersea to the O2.
5 The Emirates Air Line, SE10/E16
A 200ft cable car linking North Greenwich with Royal Docks DLR station now spans the eastern Thames.
