"You are so fucking classy." (Shoshanna in Girls, HBO)

They say that when it comes to forming networks of emotional and psychological support, women might have a slight edge over men’s feelings-free banter. To prove our point, here’s the girls of Girls (Season 1 of which concluded on Sky Atlantic last night) doing what they do best:

"I'm so happy to see you, I could murder you." (Shoshanna and Jessa in Girls.) "You are beautiful, shut up!" Hug

"You are gorgeous and a vision." (Lena Dunham as Hannah Hovarth in Girls, HBO)

"You look very dapper." (Lena Dunham as Hannah Hovarth, Girls, HBO)

"You are a brilliant genius." (Lena Dunham as Hannah Hovarth in Girls) "You threw a really good abortion." (Lena Dunham as Hannah Hovarth in Girls.) "You look really gorgeous." "I care for you, I do, I really do." "I like you, Jessa." "I don't think you're a loser." Shoshanna and Marnie in HBO's Girls.

Trust the guys to come along and harsh the vibe:

"I wouldn't even hatefuck you."

"How do I look?""Like you're about to put a hex on some popular girls."

"You look like a Mexican teenager."

"Your dad is gay."

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" Adam Driver as Adam Sackler in HBO's Girls.

At which point, use all those emotional validation skills on yourself:

"You are interesting."

Eat something delicious:

"I hate everyone who loves me." Lena Dunham as Hannah Hovarth in HBO's Girls.

Until finally, your apology is ready:

"I'm sorry, kid." Adam Driver as Adam Sackler in HBO's Girls.

Repeat as needed.

Season 2 of Girls premieres in the US on January 13.
