It was on a gloomy day in February this year that Time Out’s Clubbing team came to the conclusion that the days of the ‘club banger’ were numbered. Those big songs that could galvanise a whole dancefloor and get hands in the air faster than an armed robber just didn’t exist anymore. Dance music had become too cool for school, becoming wildly trendy and sacrificing its common touch in the process.
Then the sun came out, we stopped being so emo and we realised that between the carefree disco of Todd Terje, the Afro-swag of D’Banj or Julio Bashmore’s distinctly British take on house music, dance music still had the power to unite.
