Sparks will fly at the @ElectricDiner

Portobello Road's Electric Diner

How long would you stand in line for a burger? Fifteen minutes? Half an hour? One hour? Bearing in mind you’re not outside the Hard Rock Café in 1985, that is. We were told ‘one and and a half hours’ by the greeters at Electric Diner, but we were glad we persisted – their worst-scenario prediction shrank to a mere hour, we were inside in the cosy bar, and – small though it is – the standing area is friendly enough, with the staff willing to bring your drinks orders. The former Electric Brasserie has reinvented itself as a US diner with the help of a sleb chef from Chicago, and it’s rather good, in a waiting-an-hour-for-a-seat sort of way. Don’t like standing? Go for the breakfast instead. Guy Dimond
