Hot list: have a banging New Year at London’s official fireworks show

2012 is very nearly over and what a year it’s been. From the Diamond Jubilee to the Olympics, London has had a pretty awesome twelve months. And it’s not just London that’s had a good year. In 2012, Felix Baumgartner pushed the human body to the limits by skydiving from the edge of space, the Higgs Boson was found, Geordi Laforge’s visor became science fact with the release of Google Goggles and that’s just the start of a very long list. With that in mind, make sure 2012 goes out with a bang by heading down to the Thames tonight to see London’s official New Year fireworks display. The annual show will take place on the South Bank with rockets launching from the London Eye and barges on the Thames. But be warned, viewing areas will fill up quickly, so head down before 9pm to get a prime location and remember that the area surrounding the Eye will be cordoned off and classed as a ‘fall-out zone’. We suggest heading to the bridges (Waterloo, Westminster and the eastern Jubilee footbridge; the Millennium Bridge has only a partial view of the Eye) or just hanging out on your sofa to watch on the BBC. With those kind of sparks, there’s no surprise it’s our pick from this weeks hot list.

For more info on this and other highlights of the week, see the Hot List.
