With record numbers turning out for the traditional boxing day hunts, and tweed finding its way into the most fashionable of wardrobes, hunting, it seems, has become terribly vogue. So where better than to indulge in the gentler side of the sport (that is, sitting around in mannish surroundings, eating hearty food) than at York and Albany’s new ‘Hunting Cabin’? It’s certainly got the right location, being just moments from Regent’s Park (one of the many hunting grounds used by Henry VIII). Tricked out with an eccentric mix of tweeds, tartans and taxidermy, it will spend six weeks re-styled as a hunting lodge, complete with a roll-call of British bar snacks (game sausage rolls, scotch eggs) and warming drinks (hot cider, spiced hot chocolate with own-made ‘mallows). And no-one has to get hurt. Tania Ballantine
