It’s time to wheel out the age-old proverb ‘don’t speak unless you can improve the silence’, as this month quiet descends upon London at the International Mime Festival 2013 until Jan 27. Many of the capital’s arts hubs including the Soho Theatre, Barbican and Royal Opera House have been adopting hushed tones for the fest since 1977, as they play host to acts encompassing mime, interpretative dance, puppetry and dark clown-theatre. Celebrating the performative power of the ‘other’ senses, there’ll be a plethora of international acts – who will also be participating in after show discussions and debate panels if you just can’t bear the silence anymore.
