We love the Tube but it can be frustrating to have the fun times cut short as you make a frantic dash to catch the last train across town. Well perhaps not for much longer. We’re excited about today’s announcement of possible plans to run extended services until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights from 2015, following on from the success of the underground’s Olympic extended hours. Although that’s only about one hour longer than we have now, that’s considerable partying time and Transport for London’s Mike Brown thinks it will ‘ be a real benefit for London’s night-time economy, either for people working late or enjoying themselves’. He explained that ‘ there is a great opportunity to consider what more we could do with our hours’ but ruled out introducing a full 24 hour service, saying that the 150-year-old Tube wasn’t built for it. However, hold your horses before you get too excited because he concluded that it ‘is not imminent and we still have much work to do, but I recognise the importance to London.’ Fingers crossed it goes ahead.
