After dallying with Hollywood superheroes in ‘Green Hornet’, it looks like Michel Gondry is back in the loopy love story territory of ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ’ with his new film. ‘Mood Indigo’ is the director’s first French language film and judging from the trailer it looks like it’s stuffed full of quirky cuteness (retro typewriters, a cocktail-making piano, a flying cloud-car, ‘Amelie star’ Audrey Tautou, ice-skating). Tatou plays a woman who has a water lily growing in her chest. The only way that the love of her life (Romain Duris) can keep her alive is by constantly buying her flowers. Lovers of French literature will recognise the story as the 1947 surrealist novel ‘L’Écume des Jours’ by Boris Vian. The trailer doesn’t have subtitles yet, but you don’t need a GCSE in French to translate ‘la plus poignante’.
