Quick. Check your change. The London Underground have been giving out special edition £2 coins. As change, not just giving them away – we wish. To celebrate the Tube’s 150th anniversary The Royal Mint have released a limited amount of the special shiny coins which are currently being issued from a number of London Underground stations, with more being put into general circulation later this year.

There are two different designs. One is by the designers of the 2012 Olympic torch, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, and features a tube coming out of a tunnel and a patterned edge inspired by Harry Beck’s famous Tube map. The other coin is by Edwina Ellis and features the iconic logo as well as the well-known Tube catchphrase and tourist imitation target, ‘MIND THE GAP’.If you don’t want to quit your job and spend all your time topping up your Oyster all over town in the hope of getting a coin, you can buy collectors sets from The Royal Mint websiteJude Brosnan
