The women of today have some excellent rallying cries: you’ve gotta fight for your right to paaaartaaay; keep your rosaries off my ovaries; push it, push it real good; Hey, hey, mister, mister, Get your laws off my sister; I’m every woman etc. We want choice. We want respect. And we want to shake it like a polaroid picture. Feminism is a dancefloor issue. Pro-choice, bro-choice we just want mo-choice.
Step forward Skirt. Describing itself as a disco playing ‘sassy music to dance to’, Skirt at the Resistance Gallery in Bethnal Green this Friday Feb 8 is a night celebrating liberté, égalité and Beyoncé, with all profits going to Education for Choice. For those of you who don’t follow their excellent Twitter feed, Education for Choice is a project in the UK that provides education and training resources on abortion from a pro-choice perspective. Expect big hair, strong moves, fierce tunes, fly guys, hot girls and, yes, the occasional skirt, all wrapped up in a strong sense of sticking it to, at, on, under and round The Man. Nell Frizzell
