Flippin’ heck! Shrove Tuesday, Mardis Gras, Pancake Day – whatever you choose to call it – it’s that time of year again, when we use up our leftover eggs, milk and sugar in anticipation of all that fasting (ahem) during Lent. If you’re not planning on tossing some crêpes at home tomorrow (Feb 12), you might want to turn up elsewhere to get your batter fix. You could head to Shoreditch, where Shutterbug has just launched. Describing itself as an ‘experimental crêpe and cocktail speakeasy’, it promises all sorts of pancake-related celebrations from 6.30pm, including races and recipes, dancing and DJs. There’s an inventive range of fillings both savoury and sweet, including pulled pork with cheese and pickles, and the ‘red velvet’ – a vibrant scarlet crêpe – with strawberries and mascarpone.
