Can you handle the Breakfast Club Pancake Challenge?

Posted at 4:00 pm, February 12, 2013 in Food & Drink

Adopting the simple, slightly obscene format of monster-mealguzzling TV show ‘Man v Food’, the Breakfast Club is setting diners the ultimate pancake-eating challenge. Turn up unannounced to any of the café’s four outlets, order a plate of 12 pancakes, and a timer will be set to 20 minutes. Gobble the lot and you bag the meal (and indigestion) for free. Fail to clean your plate and you’ll be footed with a £17.50 bill (the money goes to the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity in support of kids with serious illness). Before you get all cocky, it’s worth noting the pancakes are of the thick, American-style variety (rather than our weedy British sort), and they’re served with heavy cream, berries and just a drizzle of maple syrup. If you’re still feeling confident, you may want to sign up for the Pancake Race which takes place at the Hoxton and Spitalfields branches at 7.30pm. Contestants will be served six pancakes and the fastest eater wins dinner and drinks for six. To enter, email ferris@lovetbc.com.

Taking place today at four Breakfast Club cafés in Hoxton, Spitalfields, Soho and Angel. For info, see thebreakfastclubcafes.com. Read our guide how to be a great tosser this pancake day.
