When is an artist not an artist? When they’re a comedian
These days it’s common practice to have a / in your job title; Model/actress, chef/presenter, singer/designer, blogger/ghostbuster, etc. Following suit come comedian/artists Harry Hill and Vic Reeves who both currently have exhibitions on in London galleries. Harry Hill uses his televisual influences to create works that satirise the celeb-obsessed culture that saturates our airwaves. There are well-known faces in obscure settings with lurid colours.
They’re currently showing at Gallery Maison Bertaux in Soho. For info, see hooliganartdealer.com.
Meanwhile Vic Reeves describes his collection of fine works as ‘shit in the shed at the end of my garden mixed with early Dadaism’. See for yourself at The Strand Gallery, WC2N 6BP. For info, see thestrandgallery.co.uk. Jude Brosnan
