At last. All the boring detoxing is over, and it’s time to embrace the world of wine again. And what better way than to enter a ‘wine tasting-off’ against the pros, hosted at Le Café Anglais on the first Monday of each month starting on March 4. You’ll be pitted against LCA’s head chef Rowleigh Leigh and ‘WineChap’ Tom Harrow, in a bid to win a cheeky bottle of Bolly. ‘Competitors’ will be served a series of five wines, with matched antipasti, before having their wine knowledge put to the test. Get the question right and you stay standing, get it wrong and you’ll retire till the next round. Open to all, from complete novices to wannabe buffs, it’s a lot more light-hearted than the typical ‘stuffy’ wine tasting. The evening kicks off at 6.45pm, with tickets priced at £30 (call LCA to book); afterwards, there’s the option to cap it off with a special £20 two course menu and no corkage on wine. Time to start raiding the cellar, then. Tania Ballantine
