An uprising? Time to down tools and join the marches? Well yes, but this particular revolution is the bloodless kind: the only liquid to be spilled will be of the water and hops variety. We’re talking about craft beer, and a three-day festival in the Old Truman Brewery that aims to ‘throw off the shackles of a traditional beer gathering’ from February 22-23 . They’ve parachuted in street food vendors from Brockley Market, hired live bands and big-name DJs (such as Norman Jay, no less), and laid on some beer-themed activities, from a ‘Curious Beer Lab’ to a light-hearted session on US craft beers from comedy duo the ‘Thinking Drinkers’. The main draw, of course, is the 40-odd craft breweries that will be offering tastings of their finest wares, from the smooth and simple to the more off-beat (black IPA with horseradish, anyone?).
