No, not that sort of Mile High club – this one’s all about the pleasures of foreign food and glamorous air travel, but without the need to go anywhere near an airport. As the website proclaims, it ‘takes the best bits of a weekend away – the food, the drink and the unexpected’ and dishes them up in a secret pop-up venue (disclosed when you make a booking). It’s a family affair too, set up by four cousins, the Templetons. Ex-Moro chef Oliver T is the man with the pans, and there’s also a bar, entertainment from the ‘cabin crew’ and DJs. The ticket system is two-fold: £65 for two cocktails, bar snacks and a four-course meal with wine, plus all the entertainment, or £15 for a cocktail, admission to the ‘departure lounge’ and music. The ‘journey’ kicks off in Sweden (March 14-16, 21-23), in Göteborg, to be exact – with a menu that promises the likes of char-grilled elk with golden beetroot, mushrooms, dill and cucumber salad, followed by lingonberry ice-cream with carrot cake crumble and liquorice meringue. Later destinations include Beirut (May), Sicily (June) and Mozambique (September).
